Reason for export

I thought that the reason that a lot of Japanese cars are exported or scrapped relatively soon in their lives was due to a Shaken requirement that the internal electrics have to be replaced after a certain period of time, which is prohibitively expensive. The article states that it is largely due to emissions requirements. Is the rewiring thing a myth? danno 21:38, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How about Australia?

Australia is one of the most population destination of Japanese used car export and I'm surprised that nobody create it. Can someone help to create and expand the section of Japanese used cars in Australia? User3204 (talk) 06:45, 6 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Stringent emissions source misquote

The opening section currently contains this sentence:

"Japan has very stringent vehicle emission test standards.[1]"

That source link [1] links to, "Opening Statement by Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi at the Press Conference on the Passage of the FY2003 Budget 28 March 2003".

Not only is the source fairly old at this point (late 2019), the line from the statement addressing "stringent emissions" appears to only concern diesel engines.

"In 2005 Japan will establish the world's most stringent emissions gas standards for diesel vehicles and measures are already underway."

Because of the source's age and the focus on diesel engines, I'd suggest the introductory claim as written is overly general, dated, and potentially inaccurate.
